As a host, it is important for you to protect certain information regarding your network and the clients who are a part of it. Fortunately, your directories can be protected by passwords.

This tutorial will show you how to protect your directories in Direct Admin through the implementation of passwords:

1. Log in to Direct Admin.

2. Click the “Password Protected Directories” link found under the Your Account tool to start password protecting a directory in your hosting account.

3. The link will take you to a page where your protected directories are listed. If you have not protected any of your directories, there will be no directories displayed on this page.

4. Click the “Find a Directory to Password Protect” link at the upper portion of the page to locate a directory for you to protect.

5. Password-protect the Members directory of your hosting account. To do so, click the corresponding Protect link found in the Members directory option.

6. Enter the prompt that you want to appear for the login box every time someone tries to access the directory that you have just protected.

7. Enter a username that you want to use.

8. Set a password for your directory and enter it on the space provided.

9. Confirm your new password by re-entering it on the space provided.

10. At the bottom of the form you will find a box corresponding to the “Protection Enabled” option. Click on this box to enable password protection for this directory.

11. Click the “Save” button once you are finished. You have now protected your Member’s directory. Visitors will be prompted for a username and a password before they can access information from this directory.

12. Go back to your Direct Admin main page by clicking on the “Home” icon at the upper portion of the screen.

13. On your main page, look for the “Password Protected Directories” link and click it again.

14. The directory that you have just protected is now shown in the Current Protected Directories list. Click on the link corresponding to your newly protected directory to manage it.

15. The link will redirect you to a page where you update an existing user’s password or add new users to this directory. Also, you can delete existing users and revoke their access to this directory.

16. Click the “Home” icon to go back to your Direct Admin main page. You now know how to password protect a directory in your hosting account.
